Approximately 1,000 women from the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp, among them Anne and Margot Frank and Auguste van Pels, were selected for forced labour in the German war industry. They left in the night of 1-2 November 1944 by train, they arrived in Bergen-Belsen two days later.  This was a concentration camp in Northern Germany, where both prisoners of war and Jews were imprisoned. Bergen-Belsen was also used as a transit camp to other camps. The women were put up in tents, but these tents were badly damaged a few days later in a storm. They were then put in barracks where there was very little space.  The camp was filthy, wet, and cold. People were hungry, unable to keep themselves clean, and contracted infectious and deadly diseases such as typhus. Because more and more Jewish prisoners were taken in, the camp became overcrowded and things got worse and worse. Four men sentenced to death by hanging in Lagos A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has sentenced four men to death by hanging for armed robbery and kidnapping of Mrs Gloria Emole. The convicts, Ifeanyi Maduaka, Victor Chukwunonso, Obinna Nwankwo, and Richard Nwabueze, are said to have committed the offences on the 19 of November 2012 at about 8.30am. They were arraigned on a three count charge bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping on the 13 of July 2013, preferred against them by Lagos State and remanded in prison custody. Dr Babajide Martins, the state Director of Public Prosecution, told the court that they kidnapped the victim who was about to leave her house at 7, Unity Street, Ogudu GRA area of Lagos. According to the prosecutor, the offences committed are contrary to and punishable under Sections 297,285 (2)a and 291 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015. ”The victim was kidnapped on the 19 of November 2012 and was later released on the 22 of November 20

The "last of the last" of the World War II holdouts, Teruo Nakamura refused to believe the war had ended and lived in a tiny hut on Indonesia's Morotai Island until he was discovered in 1974. Many know the story of Hiroo Onoda, the Japanese soldier who refused to believe World War II had ended and didn’t surrender until February 1974. While he is frequently referred to as the last World War II holdout, there is another lesser-known soldier who wasn’t discovered until ten months after Onoda. His name was Teruo Nakamura. By the 1970s, World War II had been over for nearly three decades. Young soldiers had returned home, started families, and entered middle age. But on Dec. 18, 1974, news broke that one man had never gotten the memo of the war’s end. Nakamura was discovered on the Indonesian island of Morotai, where he’d been stationed in 1944. After a bloody battle in September of that year, Nakamura had been presumed dead — but he was actually deep in the island’s jungle w

  The Battle of Hürtgen Forest  was a series of battles fought from September 19 to December 16, 1944, between American and German forces on the Western Front during World War II in the Hürtgen Forest, a 54 sq mi area about 3.1 mi east of the Belgian–German border. It was the longest battle on German ground during World War II and is the longest single battle the U.S. Army has ever fought. The Germans fiercely defended the area because it served as a staging area for the 1944 winter offensive, the Battle of the Bulge. After several heavy setbacks, the Allies failed to capture the area, and the Germans successfully held the region until they launched their last-ditch offensive into the Ardennes on December 16 and ended the Hürtgen offensive.  The US Army suffered over 33,000 casualties.    A woman's body was recovered from the stomach of a 19-foot crocodile in North Kalimantan, Indonesia, according to local authorities. The retrieval of her remains occurred shortly after the massive reptilian swallowed her whole, in another case of an unprovoked crocodile attacks in the Southeast Asian country and other parts of the world. The 45-year-old victim, whose name is only known as Fatimah, was reportedly fishing in a river in the said Indonesian province when her friends heard her screaming and saw the colossal crocodilian dragging her back into the inland body of water. It will take a short time before the local police hunt down the wild animal, which led to the recovery of what is left of Fatimah's body. Other parts of her body, including a severed head, were found in nearby areas from the attack site. Three men – Edward Gitau, Nicholas Mwangi and Meshak Mwangi — have been sentenced to death for stripping and sexually assaulting a woman they believed was dressed too provocatively. The incident happened in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital. The three men, however, had their death sentences commuted to life imprisonments because Kenya’s ban on carrying out executions means the trio will spend the rest of their lives in jail.  Will the war between Russia and Ukraine end if Putin die? It would certainly give Russia an excuse to stop the war. But it might also open the door to hardliners like Ramzan Kadyrov and Yevgeny Prigozhin who believe that Putin has been too soft of Ukraine and should be more forceful.
