China executes more people than rest of the world combined China executes more people each year than the rest of the world combined,  with its state-sanctioned system cloaked in official secrecy, said a report released Tuesday by human rights monitor Amnesty International. Several thousand people were executed in 2016 by China alone, while at least 1,032 were executed in 23 other countries globally, said Amnesty.  The estimates contradict official state figures, which put the number of executions at 85 between 2014 and 2016. Amnesty’s investigation found news reports of at least 931 individuals executed between 2014 and 2016, while the official state database showed only 85 entries.  “There’s absolutely no way to know whether the number of executions is going up or down in China,” despite claims by the Chinese government to be killing fewer and killing carefully, said Nicholas Bequelin, Amnesty’s regional director for East Asia. Shandong Higher People's Court will review the case of Nie Shubin and Wang Shujin. Nie was executed in 1995 at the age of 21 for the 1994 rape and murder of a woman in Hebei's provincial capital, Shijiazhuang. Wang, sentenced to death in March 2007, claimed that he raped and murdered a woman in a cornfield on the outskirts of Shijiazhuang in 1994 and Nie was innocent.  Hebei Higher People's Court, which approved the death penalty on Nie in 1995, did not believe his claim in a retrial last year and Nie's verdict still stands. Wang's claims have raised public questions of judicial im

They were convicted of minor crimes as teens and now face beheading and 'crucifixion' in Saudi Arabia When Ali al-Nimr was 17, he says he was suddenly rammed by a Saudi Arabian government vehicle while riding his motorcycle through the eastern district of Qatif. What happened next would change his life forever. Al-Nimr was taken to a local police station, where he was beaten so badly he had to be transferred to a hospital, his lawyer said. But when his uncle, the reformist Shia cleric and protest leader Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, was arrested, prosecutors ramped up their case. Instead of minor infractions related to the protests, al-Nimr now stood accused of joining a terrorist organization, throwing Molotov cocktails and arson. After being mov
