Iranian hangings 'horrified' London

LONDON, The British Foreign Secretary claimed that the sight of three Iranians being hanged from a bridge in front of a large crowd has "horrified" London.

A video footage that was sent to Amnesty International purports to show three individuals hanging from a bridge close to Kermanshah's main square. In the footage, three individuals who are perched on busses have ropes fastened around their necks by guards. As the busses begin to move away, the film comes to an end.


Public executions are barbarous, according to a statement made by British Foreign Secretary William Hague.


He released a statement saying, "I am horrified by the public execution of three men in Iran." In front of a large gathering of spectators, hanging from a bridge is startling and savage."

According to Hague, Tehran was urged to make sure that the death penalty was applied in accordance with international norms.


Public executions, according to Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, deputy director of Amnesty International for the Middle East and North Africa, are dehumanizing for society.


"These public displays of killing perpetuate a culture of acceptance of violence and bloodlust, rather than a belief in justice," he added in a press release.

Dale Eldon Christensen of Gray, Iowa, a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, was posthumously awarded the  Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on July 16, 1944, in New Guinea. Christensen served as a second lieutenant in Troop E of the 112th Cavalry Regiment. On July 16, 1994, along the Driniumor River in New Guinea, he single-handedly attacked and silenced an enemy machine gun.  Related :  Married woman caught red-handed che*ting with a married man Three days later, he surveyed an enemy strong point alone, then led his platoon in an assault that successfully destroyed the position.
