Iran Sunday condemned Saudi Arabia's execution of 81men the previous day as a "violation of basic human rights principles and international law."


"This inhumane act was in violation of basic principles of human rights and international law, and contrary to human principles and accepted legal procedures," a ministry spokesperson said, according to state media.

Reports say that 41 of the victims were Shiite opponents of the government.

Iran itself has the highest number of executions in the world after China. In January alone it hanged 46 people. A number of high-profile political prisoners have also died in custody under suspicious circumstances.

Iran’s Shiite regime is a staunch enemy of Sunni Saudi Arabia and the two rivals have been engaged in bitter conflicts in the Middle East, including a seven-year war in Yemen.

On Sunday, Tehran also announced an end to talks with Riyadh, which started one year ago with Iraqi mediation to help solve their differences.

Saudi Arabia denies accusations of human rights abuses and says it protects its national security through its laws.

Its state news agency, SPA, said on Saturday the men executed on Saturday had the right to an attorney and were guaranteed their full rights under Saudi law during the judicial process.

 Stutthof Concentration Camp guard 72 years ago today eleven members of the staff of Stutthof Concentration Camp were hanged. Stutthof concentration camp, 34 km. from Danzig , was the first concentration camp created by the Nazis outside Germany, in September 1939. From June 1944, Stutthof became a death camp as part of Hitler's programme of exterminating European Jews.  It expanded rapidly over its five year life and had many satellite camps. This expansion required a commensurate increase in staff and local people with Nazi sympathies were recruited.  Altogether some 110,000 men, women and children were sent to Stutthof. It is estimated that as many as 65,000 of these were put to death in the gas chamber or by hanging or shooting, while many more died of disease and ill treatment. Dale Eldon Christensen of Gray, Iowa, a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, was posthumously awarded the  Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on July 16, 1944, in New Guinea. Christensen served as a second lieutenant in Troop E of the 112th Cavalry Regiment. An Indonesian woman has been found in the belly of a giant python after the swollen snake was captured near where she vanished while tending her vegetable garden, police said on Saturday (June 16). The body of 54-year-old Wa Tiba was found on Friday when villagers cut open the 7m-long python, which was found bloated in the village of Persiapan Lawela on the island of Muna, offshore of Sulawesi. "Residents were suspicious the snake swallowed the victim, so they killed it, then carried it out of the garden," said local police chief Hamka, who like many Indonesians has only one name.
