Dead Body Of Semi-Naked Woman Found In Hailakandi Paddy Field

The dead body of an unidentified woman in semi-naked condition was recovered under mysterious circumstances from a paddy field at Nitainagar (Part-II) under Algapur constituency in Hailakandi district on Saturday.


According to sources, the body was spotted on a paddy field at Nitainagar (Part-II), around 31km from Silchar, by some kids, who were passing by the area this afternoon. The body was lying underneath a high-voltage electric line. The terrified kids immediately went to home and told their guardians following which the matter was informed to the police.


DSP (headquarters) Nayan Moni Barman along with a team of police rushed to the spot. The preliminary investigation was conducted and the body was sent to Hailakandi Civil Hospital for post-mortem. Police suspect the woman was raped and then strangulated to death.

The woman, who looked like around 37/38 years, was in a red saree and a portion of the saree was found tied up with her neck. The lower portion of the body was found naked. A polythene bag with paan, betelnut and a handkerchief inside it was recovered near the spot. Locals suspected the woman was raped and murdered somewhere else and later dumped on the field.

A probe has been initiated into the incident. There was no arrest made in this connection, as per last available reports.
