This photograph was taken in 1920. A hundred years ago this was considered “normal.”
The perpetrators pose proudly and with a smile in front of the dead without caring about anything. Surely we could affirm that these evil people were not condemned for their actions.
The most terrifying thing about this photo is that many of those posing were parents, grandparents and great-grandparents who passed their ideology and scale of values to the next generation.

This other photograph was taken in 1935. Reuben Stacey was hanged and shot several times. In today's America a photo like that would never have been published (especially with all those kids around).
