Dale Eldon Christensen of Gray, Iowa, a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on July 16, 1944, in New Guinea.
Christensen served as a second lieutenant in Troop E of the 112th Cavalry Regiment. On July 16, 1994, along the Driniumor River in New Guinea, he single-handedly attacked and silenced an enemy machine gun.

Three days later, he surveyed an enemy strong point alone, then led his platoon in an assault that successfully destroyed the position.
He was killed in action on August 4, 1944, while leading his platoon on another attack against an enemy position.

He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for these actions on May 10, 1945. He is buried at the Manila American Cemetery in Manila, the Philippines.
